Vasilisa the beautiful

Vasilisa the Beautiful is a Russian/Slavic fairy tale collected and published by Alexander Afanasyev between 1855 and 1863. For those not familiar with it, it is a cross between Cinderella and Hansel and Gretel, and is as much about the legendary Baba Yaga as it is about Vasilisa. (YouTube has several tellings of this, but the Russian film "Vasilisa the Beautiful" is actually not based on this fairy tale of the same name.) This piece is my take on the iconic scene of Vasilisa carrying the magical skull-lantern through the forest which has been captured by many artists. My thanks again to the Ceramic Art Studio and Shop.
