Armadillo Girdled Lizard

The armadillo girdled lizard (Ouroborus cataphractus), also commonly known as the armadillo lizard, the armadillo spiny-tailed lizard, and the golden-armadillo lizard, is a species of lizard in the family Cordylidae. The species is endemic to desert areas along the western coast of South Africa. The armadillo girdled lizard possesses an uncommon antipredator adaptation, in which it rolls into a ball and takes its tail in its mouth when frightened. In this shape, it is protected from predators by the thick, squarish scales along its back and the spines on its tail. This behavior, which resembles that of the mythical ouroboros and of the mammalian armadillo, gives it its taxonomic and English common names. I think the real reason for their popularity is they are real life Pokemons.

Abyssinian Cat

The Abyssinian is a breed of domestic short-haired cat with a distinctive "ticked" tabby coat, in which individual hairs are banded with different colors. They are also known simply as Abys. The breed is named for Abyssinia (now called Ethiopia), where it is believed to have originated.

Arash the Archer

Arash the Archer (Persian: آرش کمانگیر) is a heroic archer-figure of Iranian mythology. According to Persian folklore, the boundary between Iran and Turan was set by an arrow launched by Arash, after he put his own life in the arrow's launch. The arrow was traveling for days before finally landing on the other side of the Oxus on the bark of a walnut tree hundreds of miles away from the original launch site atop a mountain. I figured Arash would be tired and exhausted after his summit, and being alone, would have removed his upper garments to not restrict his movement. He was also going for maximum distance, so he's holding the arrow from his chest and not really aiming at anything in particular.

Pandoras Box

In Greek mythology, Pandora was the first human woman created by Hephaestus on the instructions of Zeus. According to Hesiod, when Prometheus stole fire from heaven, Zeus, the king of the gods, took vengeance by presenting Pandora to Prometheus' brother Epimetheus. Pandora opened a jar left in her care containing sickness, death and many other unspecified evils which were then released into the world. Though she hastened to close the container, only one thing was left behind – usually translated as Hope. The container mentioned in the original account was actually a large storage jar, but the word was later mistranslated as a box, hence the term "Pandora's Box," which has become so ubiquitous that I've kept that as the title for this piece.

Siberian Tiger

The Siberian tiger or Amur tiger is a population of the tiger subspecies Panthera tigris tigris native to the Russian Far East, Northeast China and possibly North Korea. It once ranged throughout the Korean Peninsula, northern China and eastern Mongolia. This is my fifth tiger, and fourth Siberian, made to commemorate 2022, the Year of the Water Tiger. (White Tiger, Siberian Tiger in the Snow 1.0, Siberian Tiger in the Snow 2.0, Tiger and Magpie)
