Fleur-de-lis iPad and Phone Stand
- Details
- Category: Sculptures
A while ago I sculpted a ceramic iPad stand in the shape of an octopus, which I use almost on a daily basis. The only downside is its size, and so I sculpted a smaller, lighter stand that can hold both an iPad sized tablet and a smart phone. I used the classic fleur-de-lis shape as the basis for my design. My thanks again to the Ceramic Art Studio and Shop.
Le Hulk Pensant (The Thinking Hulk)

My homage to Rodin and Marvel. As it turns out, what I thought was an original idea had been done previously by an artist named Luke Ross - albeit a drawing and not a sculpture (thank God). I'm hopeful that my version is the first ceramic sculpture rendition of this mash-up. My thanks again to the Ceramic Art Studio and Shop.

Kumiho, the Nine Tailed Fox (Kitsune, Huli jing)

A Kumiho (or Gumiho) is the Korean version of a nine-tailed fox also present in Chinese (Huli jing) and Japanese (Kitsune) folklore. The common elements in all three legends are of a supernatural fox with nine tails who's lived a thousand years and is able to shape-shift into a beautiful woman. I originally wanted to glaze this piece in full color with ancient spirit tattoos (as suggested by an Instagram sculpting colleague), but decided to go with saturation gold for various reasons. My thanks again to the Ceramic Art Studio and Shop.

El Luchador (Mil Máscaras)

The sport-tainment of professional wrestling is known as "Lucha Libre" in Mexico, and I remember watching it on television as a kid growing up in LA. While there were a lot of memorable characters, Mil Máscaras was in a class by himself. He was as legendary back then as he is now. This tribute to him, along with Osumosan and The Prize Fighter, completes my modern day Gladiators series. My thanks again to the Ceramic Art Studio and Shop.
