I still am not totally sure who or what Pengsoo is, other than he (I'm assuming it's a he) appears to be quite popular in Korea at the moment. My thanks again to the Ceramic Art Studio and Shop.

This piece was a commission from a recently wedded couple. The request was to combine a lion cub and a deer, which of course would never occur in nature as the two species are a continent apart. But in my ceramic universe, such an encounter is totally possible - as I've managed to capture at this magical watering hole. My thanks again to the Ceramic Art Studio and Shop.

The Himba are indigenous peoples with an estimated population of about 50,000 people living in northern Namibia. Himba women are famous for covering themselves with otjize paste, a cosmetic mixture of butterfat and ochre pigment, to cleanse the skin over long periods due to water scarcity and protect themselves from the extremely hot and dry climate of the Kaokoland as well as insect bites. The cosmetic mixture, often perfumed with the aromatic resin of the omuzumba shrub, gives their skin and hair plaits a distinctive orange or red-tinge characteristic, as well as texture and style. I based my sculpture on a stock photo of a young Himba woman (unmarried, by the lack of adornment piece on her head). My thanks again to the Ceramic Art Studio and Shop.

Elkan is a lovely white Siberian Husky. Siberian Huskies originated in Northeast Asia where they were originally bred by the Chukchi people for sled-pulling, guarding, and companionship. While most huskies have the signature masks and blue-eyed, some like Elkan are pure white with golden colored eyes. My thanks again to the Ceramic Art Studio and Shop.
